Course Description
NARPM brings the best and most informative education to its members.
In addition to the many educational opportunities at Local, State and National Conferences, NARPM has developed a core of courses that are required to earn NARPM designations. These courses are industry-specific and relate to the needs of residential property managers from every state. The course may be taken for educational purposes alone OR to work toward a NARPM designation. Also, a number of these courses can count towards state requirements for continuing education
Ethics Course
This three-hour course is required by NARPM for all RMP® designees. The ethics course helps to remind you what is and is not ethical from a professional standards point of view. The NARPM Code of Ethics and the Standards of Professionalism are reviewed in depth to remind NARPM members that they subscribe to the highest ethical and professional standards by being members of NARPM. Case studies relating to every day property management issues and a final exam round out the course.
Residential Management Professional (RMP®) Designation Courses:
RMP® Habitability Standards & Maintenance
Course materials will cover specific information from the Uniform Housing Code concerning basic habitability standards that govern local codes, policies of insurance companies, and our own Standards of Professionalism. Participants will learn what to look at when taking properties into property management, and what questions to ask property owners about their buildings. Class participants will learn how to identify and differentiate the various kinds of molds, and what remediation steps need to be taken to protect residents and the property. Maintenance techniques regarding the handling of service requests, maintenance coordination, and implementing preventive and corrective maintenance will also be covered.
RMP® Applying Technology
This class explores every area of technology that applies to the property management office. You will examine how to increase efficiency and save money by creating a paperless office. Software covered will include word processing, database systems, accounting, photo marketing, communications, faxing, the Internet, and much more. Also discussed will be various computer hardware; from the basic PC to devices such as scanners and digital cameras – including how to purchase equipment most efficiently.
RMP® Marketing
This course provides an overview of the process necessary to market your management business. Marketing techniques such as making presentations to owners, prospecting new contacts, and closing will be discussed. Marketing principles specific to residential property management will also be presented.
RMP® Office Operations
The objectives of this class are to provide an understanding of office structure, know how to write a property management policy and procedure manual, learn the importance of implementing effective office systems, as well as ways to set office goals and be prepared for change. This class will prepare an office to qualify for NARPM's highest designation, the Certified Residential Management Company (CRMC®).
RMP® Tenancy
This course will focus on the knowledge, skills, and operational tools needed to effectively manage tenants in residential properties. The course will examine paperwork, policies, and procedures necessary to develop good tenancy and good tenant relations. It will basically cover the tenant cycle from screening, move in and move out, security deposits, record keeping, and much more.
Master Property Manager (MPM®) Designation Courses:
MPM® Operating a Maintenance Company
This two-day course provides an in-depth study of the business skills and procedures necessary to operate a residential maintenance company. You will learn about starting a company, as well as operating, evaluating, and controlling the business. Other topics to be discussed include accounting, record keeping, and inventory. Participants will also analyze the operations of a faltering business.
MPM® Owner/Client Relations
This course will be interactive and is designed to achieve rental property owners’ goals by understanding their financial and personal requirements so that the property manager can provide them with the results needed to make their ownership profitable and enjoyable.
MPM® Personnel Procedures & Employee Relations
This two-day course examines many skills, including effectively planning for personnel needs and growth, hiring and selection skills, as well as effective compensation, benefit, and training programs. Employment status, policy-procedure manuals, and motivating employees are also topics. In total, this course will result in an increased ability to effectively manage personnel.
MPM® Risk Management
This two–day course will explore risk management theory and ways managers and owners can minimize costs. Also included will be insurance needs, basics of tort law, study of forms and contracts, and a review of environmental areas and physical property factors that affect risk.
