Craigslist Scam Alert

Due to the concerns over the scams that are happening on craigslist, NARPM® has compiled the following items to help you deal with this issue.

  • How to spot and report a scam to craigslist
  • If you suspect that an item posted for sale on craigslist may be part of a scam, please e-mail the details to abuse@craigslist.org. Be sure to include the URL (or 10-digit post ID number) in your message.
  • Please use the "spam" flag link in the top right corner of a spam posting.
  • Watch this video on how to report a SCAM to the FTC
  • File a complaint with IC3, a partnership between the FBI, the National White Collar Crime Center, and the Bureau of Justice Assistance, whose mission is to serve as a vehicle to receive, develop, and refer criminal complaints related to cyber crime.

To have the listings removed from craigslist:

  • #1 Pull up the listing on craigslist and select the "Prohibited" tab to have craigslist investigate it. One NARPM® member had their scam listing removed in about 48 hours. If there is more than one listing for the same property, you can select "spam/over post" and have the second listing with the same address removed also.
  • #2 Go to the craigslist home page and select the "avoid scams & fraud" tab on the left to report the scam listings to the FTC and IC3 (Internet Crime Complaint Center) or go to http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx.

Why Use One

Protect Yourself Against Foreclosures

In an effort to help consumers confused by recent changes in area housing markets, NARPMŪ has set up a website to assist individuals who are either currently renting a single-family home or are considering renting in a specific area. By logging onto www.WhyUseOne.com, consumers can find out more about local real estate laws governing rentals, as well as discover the type of protection NARPMŪ offers renters. A variety of marketing materials are also available to promote the site.

Going Green

1. NARPM® is unrolling several new green initiatives this year! The first is our transition from a print membership directory to an online one. This e-Directory always brings you the most up-to-date membership information available.

2. The Association was a proud Organization Supporter of Earth Hour! NARPM® National, along with famous landmarks such as the Las Vegas Strip and the Empire State Building, came together to call for action on climate change by turning off our lights for one hour on March 27, 2010.

3. In partnership with Appfolio, Inc., NARPM® announced the launch of GreenPropertyMangement.com, a new online resource for residential property managers interested in articles, interviews and surveys on topics relating to green
technology, running a paperless office and ways to save money by going
green.
